The story of this pillow

This pillow has lived an adventurous life.

It began its life as the walls of the tent of a Bedouin home in Jordan, and when the tent walls were no longer keeping out the desert sands and wind, the cloth was sold to a textile collector in Amman, who cut the fabric into pillows covers.

We don't know who wove it this fabric, but we know she was a Bedouin woman, living nomadically with her family in the deserts of Jordan. She and her family raised goats (for meat, milk and wool), as well as camels for transportation. The fibers of this pillow were woven from the goats she raised, and from combing the hair of her camels.

She hand-spun the fibers of the goat and camel hair, and wove the fabric on a backstrap loom, which she could easily pack up and transport when the family moved.

This pillow is not just a pillow -- it carries with it a hidden past of the deserts in Jordan, and we love to imagine the adventures it might have had.
